International Women’s Day is on March 8 and ABC Jazz is paying tribute to some of the most influential composers and performers from the Australian scene with a new digital album.
The collection showcases both emerging and established artists, in sessions from Perth to Sydney, and from Melbourne to Brisbane. Taken from recordings made by ABC Jazz over the past 18 months, the album features lead artists Zela Margossian, Gian Slater, Kate Pass, Margie Lou Dyer, Ilaria Crociani, Angela Davis, Minnie Hill, Adelina Martinez and Brenda Gifford. Over 45 musicians are represented across the album’s ten tracks – the full list appears overleaf.
Many of the tracks on this album were directly commissioned by the ABC as part of projects created to help support and record new Australian works while live opportunities were few and far between: first the Fresh Start Fund, then the ABC Jazz and ABC Classic Composer Commission series, which have continued to provide opportunities for emerging and diverse artists from across the country.
